Subject: EVALUATION OF THE HOLLOW EARTH THEORY - SUBSURFACE SURVEY FINDINGS
Originator: [REDACTED]
This report evaluates the persistent theory that the Earth is hollow and contains an interior civilization. A comprehensive subsurface survey was conducted using the Agency's most advanced deep-ground-penetrating radar array. The survey confirmed that the Earth is not hollow. However, it did detect a network of tunnels at an average depth of 1,200 metres that appear to connect several continents. The tunnels are straight, uniform in diameter, and lined with a material that does not occur naturally. The tunnels also have surprisingly good cellular reception.
The Tunnel Network. The radar survey identified 47 distinct tunnel segments at depths ranging from 800 to 1,500 metres below the surface. The tunnels form a connected network spanning from [REDACTED] to [REDACTED], with branch lines extending to [REDACTED]. The tunnels are perfectly cylindrical, approximately 4 metres in diameter, and spaced at remarkably regular intervals. Seismic analysis suggests the tunnels were constructed by removing material rather than displacing it - the rock simply ceases to exist at the tunnel boundary.
Atmospheric Conditions. Remote sensor packages lowered into boreholes that intersect the tunnels have confirmed the presence of breathable air, stable temperature (a constant 18 degrees Celsius regardless of geographic location), and atmospheric pressure consistent with sea level. The tunnels are not dark. A low-level bioluminescent glow emanates from the tunnel walls, providing sufficient illumination to read by. The glow has been described by remote camera footage as "a pleasant warm amber colour, like a well-lit library."
The Cellular Reception. The Agency deployed a mobile phone to depth, expecting no signal. The phone connected immediately to a cellular network that is not operated by any known carrier. The network identifier reads as "AT&T" but investigation has confirmed that AT&T does not operate a network at 1,200 metres below the Earth's surface. The phone was able to browse the internet, though the content served was slightly different from the surface internet - search results returned alternate versions of websites that do not exist on the surface, including a Wikipedia article about a war that never happened.
Hypothesis A - Ancient Subterranean Civilization. The tunnel network is the remnant of a technologically advanced civilization that lived beneath the Earth's surface and constructed this transportation network before vanishing or retreating to greater depths. The cellular network is a relic of their technology, still operating after whatever happened to them. The alternate internet is a cached version of their own internet, still running on servers that were never turned off. The Wikipedia article about a war that never happened describes the conflict that may have led to their disappearance.
Hypothesis B - Geological Anomaly. The tunnels are a natural geological formation that happens to resemble an artificial tunnel network. The uniform diameter is a result of fluid dynamics. The cellular reception is a electromagnetic phenomenon caused by mineral deposits. The alternate internet is a caching error caused by the Earth's magnetic field interfering with the phone's signal routing. The pleasant amber glow is a form of chemiluminescence from naturally occurring minerals. This is the most scientifically orthodox explanation. It is also the least interesting.
Hypothesis C - Someone Built This Recently. The tunnel network was constructed by an unknown party within the last 50 years, using technology that is far beyond our current capabilities. The cellular network is a private network installed by the tunnel builders. The alternate internet is a deliberate deception - someone is running a mirror of the surface internet with changes designed to mislead anyone who discovers the tunnels. The Wikipedia article about the war that never happened may be a warning, a joke, or a test to see if anyone notices. The pleasant amber light is standard fluorescent lighting with a sepia filter.
The Earth is not hollow. It does, however, appear to have an extensive subterranean transportation network with its own cellular provider and a slightly different version of the internet. It is recommended that further exploration be conducted with caution, that personnel bring portable chargers, and that no one read any Wikipedia articles about wars that never happened. The pleasant amber light is probably fine. The cell service, however, is suspicious. No one gets full bars at 1,200 metres underground without making some kind of deal.
